Why Does My Car Have No Spare Tyre

Recently bought a Dacia Duster on finance, but to my complete ignorance I didn't realise it came with no spare wheel.

I rang the garage where I bought it the next day apon realising it had no spare wheel, and they said oh didn't the sales team explain that to you, so I said no they didn't. I basically didn't expect it not to have one.

Anyway the plot thickens because my partner is a carer and needs the car 24/7. Yesterday evening we were out in it, luckily only travelling at 30mph, and without warning the rear nearside tyre went bang, so I managed to safely bring it to a stand still, and luckily recovery quickly came out and brought the car home, but couldn't fix the tyre as they don't carry spare tyres.

Now we have a car we can't use until Tuesday at the earliest due to it being the Easter weekend, non of the tyre garages around here are open until Tuesday.

Its worth pointing out the tyre was too damaged to re-inflate at the roadside.

So basically due to a lack of a spare wheel, which typically I grew up thinking was a vital piece of road side repair kit, was not included on my car, and apparently this trend is wider than I thought on most modern cars.

So why are cars being manufactured without a spare wheel, when all it does is redures the car unusable, and in our case for many days, which is awful as my partner desperately needs it to be operational at all times.

I can only assume manufacturer's think carrying an extra wheel and jack and tools is added weight, and without it the car will run more economically, and be better for the planet. But if it means calling out recovery trucks surely this means more vehicles on the road equalling more pollution, when ironically if the car had a spare wheel in the first place we could have just replaced the wheel ourselves saving call outs, and had a car we can use all weekend.

Is there any particular reason this is happening, surely it can't be down to my logic of extra weight?

I don't know accurate this claim is but I've known for years that a spare wheel supplied with a new car is a rarity

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/just-3-of-new-cars-sold-with-a-spare-wheel-rac-research-finds/

No, they are, NMA. This is happening worldwide, it's just a cost saving exercise

It is alot to do with weight saving. A supplied spare wheel will increase weight by about 20kgs which,in turn, will affect fuel economy. The manufactures will sell their cars on higher fuel economy figures and beggar the owner/drivers.

//Why are  car manufacturers ditching the spare wheel?

Spare wheels have increasingly fallen out of favour with car manufacturers as tougher legislation demanded that they do all they can to reduce emissions.

With a spare wheel easily adding up to 20kg to the overall weight of a vehicle, removing them from the standard list of equipment supplied with a new car has been an easy change for manufacturers to make to increase fuel efficiency//

I always carry a spare tyre - whether I'm in the car or not!🙄😂

When you buy a new car surely you check the specs to ensure you get the right model and level of trim foir you?

It will say in the specs if a spare is included or not.
If there is one asan option then there will be a space for it.
I specced one with mine and I also found that a rear wiper was a no cost option! Many have been caught by this.

Theres many ways to increase fuel economy without doing away with a much needed spare wheel, but they choose not to go down that round. Anyone who is capable of changing a spare over is now having to wait many hours in some cases for someone to come out. Its nothing more than a cost saving exercise saving the car companies millions and increasing the cost of motoring to the customer, nothing new there. If people didn't want one they wouldn't be shopping round on ebay for one, and neither would they be on sale, and neither would the manufacturers be making them available to even buy??

The fuel figures for new cars are a complete joke anyhow from the manufactures.

that road ^^^

Like I said there is no weight saving on an electric ? petrol engine, none whatsoever. And we all know what some car manufactures have been up to regarding emissions don't we. :0)))

You didn't have a spare tyre because the world has gone insane and tries at every opportunity to make life as difficult and frustrating as possible. It's hard to think of a reason why, but the only thing that seems even half likely is that everyone has a very warped sense of humour and stick around all day urinating themselves laughing at the trouble they cause, and trying to sew up their splitting sides.

It could have something to do with woke behaviour response after someone has told them that the globe is warming up. The sooner sanity returns to the human race (if it ever had sanity) the better.

dunno what you mean by "no weight saving" - if you don't carry a spare your saving whatever a spare weighs?

Not if my mother in law popps in the back, wont make a dot.

14.50 barry. Its a good question, depends what copper turns up some times. They will sometimes cone you off while you do it, some will insist you wait for recovery to the nearest service point on the motorway, or a wide cut out that the police use now and again waiting for a baddy to come along, but theres not to many cutouts made on the network.

OG, they will be telling us next that we don't need indicators. BACK to hand signals. :0)))))

I very much doubt that drivers over the last thirty years know what hand signals are required, how to use them and where to find them. What's a Highway code?

Most drivers don't seem to know what indicators are.

I believe the present hand signals that most young drivers have are either one finger or two. The nodding head is still popular.

bhg. Taxi drivers have had the indicator stick taken out for more miles to the gallon. :0)

nicebloke - there you are then, weight-saving does make a difference.

I wonder if driving around with no air in my tyres would help as even air weighs something.

Thieves, rogues and vagabonds, it's all about money just wrapped up in some 'green' garbage.

If it was soooo critical to performance and economy a spare wouldn't be available at all.

'They' think our heads button up the back.
