I would give the jeans a miss until you have sussed it out a bit, I would still wear a smart shirt but no tie. Smart casual could just mean you don't need to wear a suit. better to be smarter than the rest than to arrive in jeans and T shirt and find everybody else is wearing a shirt and trousers. you don't say what type of job it is, that would also help?

hi,
thanks for your answer. its a job in a call centre and its my first of this sort, so part of me is thinking that as nobody is going to see me jeans would be ok. but at the same time i know some companies prefer to look proffesional all the time.
i think your right though if i wear trousers and shirt on the first day if i'm the only one i can wear something different on the 2nd day.
thanks again for the answer.
Call centres usually don't allow their staff to wear jeans. Go with what Ratter's said, wear shirt, trousers but no tie.

Oh and congrats on your new job :-)

Wear shirt and trousers for your first day and also see what everybody else is wearing to give you more of an idea of 'smart casual'. x
The situation will dictate what kind ?
whatever it is remember dress for success always arrive everywhere in style my friend.
