My much-travelled friends (who live in Italy) occasionally send me picture postcards from the places that they're visiting.  However they email me far more pictures.

PS: I can't recall sending any holiday postcards within the past three decades but that might well be because, apart from a short break in Madrid, I've not taken any holidays within the past three decades!

Definitely don't receive as many as I used to - three this year.
Now they come by e-mail or not at all!

I really can't remember when I last received a holiday postcard, I can't remember when I last received a handwritten letter or even when I last sent one.

Just another of those things that has changed over the years.

When I went to the seaside in the summer all the shops had racks of postcards outside, so people must be buying them.

No handwritten letters sent or received here, either.  The times certainly have changed

I had a hand written letter last week!   Two pages from an old acquaintance.  It was so nice.

That is nice!

I friend of mine still plays a game of chess by post - real letters, with a stamp.  They were penpals when they were schoolboys and have been playing postal chess for years.

The check is in the post.

I send postcards to my elderly relative. Always when in holiday and sometimes local ones just to cheer her up.

I haven't received any since she stopped going on holiday herself.

Probably about 6 months ago.  But I buy certain picture postcards off ebay because they have a historical connection.  I've just returned a collection of about 300 to my mother which my great grandmother collected in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  Absolutely fascinating.

We enjoy looking at old postcards, reflections of time gone by, a snapshot of social history.

Some old postcards can be quite valuable, especially old seaside (funny) ones by McGill.

Question Author

I had a fancy to decorate my bathroom with McGill postcards printed on to tiles.

Make the shower cubicle a punch and Judy tent and have sand and pebble lino on the floor.

Couldn't work out what to do with the loo and sink, though.

I always send some , good way of keeping up with ancient  relatives scattered all over the country

I sent a thank you card on Tuesday. They are a fun way of communicating.

Question Author

I do appreciate a thank you card, William, I would appreciate a postcard too, but a thank you card is very personal.

Earlier this year.  Always send 10 or so when we go on holiday and probably receive a similar number throughout the year from various friends when they are away.
