WCR has been granted an extension to their  exemption until the end of Febrary next year (by which time the Judicial Review decision should have been made):

But where do they go if their case is rejected - into Administration possibly.

They would be wise to start modifying the stock now at a rate they can afford which would show intent and make a further extension more likely (providing the conversion programme continues of course)

I remember travelling on slam door trains in my school days in the 70s.

The internal door handles were deactivated until the train stopped. Everyone just opened the window, reached out and opened the door with the external handle as the train came to a halt. 

I too remember travelling on the old Fifties slam door stock in my schooldays. They mainly didn't have any indoor handles at all and the standard way of opening the doors was to lower the window and use the outer handle.
