They've been giving away free everything for years now there is a £1.5bn black hole in the budget. I know, lets tax the wealth creators even more, we'll get £60m! Yeah and probably lose more from discouragement of endeavour! Right oh! Stop giving away free stuff so you can flip the bird to England! Ain't rocket is it?

Well if they could find the missing dosh....

At least they have a nice 'battlebus'. 😁

Whatever the solution is, I imagine that the Westminster Parliament/England will be held entirely responsible for the problem by the SNP and its' supporters.

Black holes matter.

Goes without saying jack!

Yes, the English will be at fault and totally responsible.

To be fair to Mr Yousaf(even though he has had a pretty rubbish career) he rather inherited this monumental pile of dung.

Taxing your way out of it wont work, certainly not long term.  If they do it as part of a series of measures with a plan to get it back down ini the future then maybe it will work.

But who knows eh?

Did you hear Shona Robison?

She was paying Tax-Hike Bingo - it was so predictable.

"Those with the broadest shoulders should pay more". Those with the broadest shoulders are already paying more. Even without the increased brackets those with the broadest shoulders would be paying more because, err, that's how percentages work.

I detest with a passion the 'broadest shoulders' argument.

As per it's a success tax. It's a cheap win becuase those it won't affect will love it because it's only ever other people who don't pay enough tax - funny that.

They've had to take this action due to "Tory cuts". Apparently.

They say this will help a £1.5bn funding shortfall.

Here's an idea, in the 2021/2022 academic year there were 183,000 Scottish domiciled students studying at Scottish universities. If my maths is correct, 183,000 x £9,250 pa will plug the shortfall in one go with some change left over, so start charging Scottish students the same amount that English students have to pay to go to university.

should ask nicola for a few quid, i think the snp a doomed, with businesses moving south leaving a trail of unemployed scots. the snp want independence from the uk only to be ruled by germany..ok eu in name only.

There's that assumption that those with a high income earn more. Common sense tells you that there is a limit on how much one person is contributing compared to another. Go high enough and it isn't being earned, it's being extracted by someone who has found enough loopholes and has enough valued contacts, to be vastly overpaid; and likely enough there are many lower paid folk being overcharged somewhere to provide the money. Best they give it back and clear their conscience.

Far more revenue will be raised from those lower down the pay scales because the thresholds have not been raised and pay increases will have brought people into the higher bands.

But is this thread really another example of the AB "we hate Scotland" cabal in action (and I am no fan of the SNP.)

Yes fiscal drag is will come into play as well, and that's a weasel-way to collect more tax.

and I'm not a fan of the Barnett Formula .

Holyrood fiddled whilst the rest of Scotland burnt and now the Scots will have to shoulder the burden for plugging this fiscal black-hole.

Yes JTH, it was more important to flip the finger to England by, for example giving Scots free Higher ed, than it was to manage their economy. The SNP have been a disaster with their obsession with "independence" at the expense of day to day sensible management.

Anyhoo, what can one expect from a bunch of ropy lawyers and over-promoted town councillors.

Just be glad you're living the dream in your green and pleasant land where milk and honey flows. x

Im happy enough to pay more tax and council tax,as long as it isnt wasted on SNP stunts and unwinnable legal cases.I pay approximately £1500 a year in council tax,i would be happy to pay more for council services, but Yousaf has frozen council tax,God knows why?

Just be glad you're living the dream in your green and pleasant land where milk and honey flows. x

that would be English milk and honey

Well...aye.
