I bought a new product today, for me that is, Waitrose Coconut Lime & Coriander rice....looked enticing.

I get back to find it's for a microwave - which I don't have. It's a cooked parboiled long grain rice..... Can I steam the contents and, if so, how long would you say?

Thanks......

Yes, I know that this ain't in food - no choice came up at the start......

Some info  ...

To cook microwave rice on the stovetop, start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of rinsed rice to the boiling water, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender.27 Sept 2023

I'd use common sense and heat or steam gently till it's piping hot. I've done this many times when Mrs A hasn't read the small print. Microwave isn't some magic process, it's just one way of making stuff hot.

Moorea; I don't think that rinsing and then treating as raw rice would be treated is the best way to deal with parboiled coconut lime and coriander rice.

I'd probably put it into a steamer basket in a saucepan and hope for the best.  No idea how long I would do it for, I would probably just fluff it up with a fork and see how the texture is every now and again.  You can't do anything else really as you would wash the flavourings away.

As it's already cooked I would put a few teaspoons of boiling water in a pan with a lid break up the rice with a fork and reheat with the lid on. Check after 4-5 minutes to see if hot

I just reheat in a non stick pan stirring gently, takes about 3 minutes.

^Redhelen's way is the best option.

Aldi has an identical product with both microwave and hob instructions. Three tablespoons of boiling water in pan, add rice, stir to break up, cover and simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes until all liquid is absorbed.

I will try RH's way - I got it to go with Mary Berry's Peking Chicken that I made yesterday - and then couldn't find any Chinese Pancakes in Tesco - or today in Waitrose, though one of the staff recommended the Crosta Mollica Piadina, so will try one of these - a minute in a dry frying pan and it remains nice and soft, along with a little of the rice as a side-dish.
