//When a 69-year-old with a weakened prostate parked in a layby to have a "discreet" wee he ended up being handed an £88 fine for "littering". While many might consider urinating in public - however discreet - unpleasant or antisocial, is it actually littering?//

On production of a letter from his doctor, the fine was subsequently cancelled, but the question remains.   Littering?   I would say 'no', but considering his condition I would advise him to carry a bottle made specially for the purpose in future.

If there are no toilets, what are people supposed to do?  Public toilets are being closed all over the country.

During lockdown, OH had an appt. at Hull to remove a cataract. I drove him down (just over an hour) and had to wait for nearly 2 hours to collect him.  I asked at the hospital if I could use the toilet and was refused entry. My question about where there were facilities (I don't know Hull) met with a blank.

In desperation I returned to my car, moved it until I could park in a corner formed by a  blank wall and just had to wee in the space provided by opening the front and back-passenger doors. Fortunately I'd a long coat on.

So just what are people supposed to do in these circs?  The French don't worry - they take it too far actually.

So it looks as though the Water Companies could be prosecuted for fly tipping or similar legislation.

Bring it on.

Looks like I'm up for litterbug of the year again then.

How ridiculous! When you gotta go, you gotta go! There should be more toilet facilities for people.

Just one example I see on a regular basis

"The toilets at Haggerston are closed, please use the ones at East Ord"

The wording may not be exact but a large picnic area with at least one food seller operating could surely have the bogs open.

(Just south of Berwick-Upon-Tweed for you soft southerners)

No problem for the Roman Legionaires who previously occupied my German market town (Rottenburg a. Neckar)and had one of the finest latrinae in the empire.

Wouldn't fancy lifting the seat though.

I remember back in the early 70s when one of my friends got a fine for doing this.  The ticket read "urinating to the Annoyance of another person" the other person being the policeman that gave him the ticket.
