The subject today on radio was toilet paper.  What's wrong with squares cut from old newspapers?

Recycling at its best.

Izal was good for tracing paper, too.

Yes it was Barry.

We had 'soft' at home, but not soft compared to what it is now.  Also real thin so you had to watch your fingers didnt go through it.

My mum used to keep a roll of Izal that was known as the desperate spare.  This was because no one told her when last roll was being used, she figured we woujld all holla if we had to use the Izal.  She was correct, it only happened a few times.

My dad used to tell us of his job as a child was to square up the newspaper and thread some string through the corner. He also had tales of digging his way throught he snow to the lavvy first thing for morning ablutions.

I was going to draw a parallel with the history of vaginal tampons but I dont think I will

"paper will disintegrate very quickly".

Newspaper won't.

Quicker than wet wipes or nappies.

Don't try this at home.

My Grandad told me, as a boy, the way to use a bus ticket to "clean"  after going to the loo and finding nothing to use. The technique was to fold the ticket in half, then in half again, and tear off the corner that had two folds. Retain the torn off corner. Unfold the ticket and put index finger through the hole. Use finger to remove any Klingons and use ticket that is on the finger to wipe finger. Use the torn off corner to clean under finger nail.

What's for tea again?

My mam could never understand why I always had a bus ticket in my pocket.

"Quicker than wet wipes or nappies"...

which, of course, are not just paper.

I have never used newspaper, because do you get ink on your backside?.

Much cheaper than tattoos though.

No you dont get ink anymore, not like the old days.
