Not the compass you go rambling with that has north, south etc.

I'm sure it was called something else when I was at school.

They are know as a pair of compasses, usually shortened to compass.

Compass/dividers and protractor in my pencil case.

a pair of compasses

The stabber!!

I believe the two pronged instrument is called the divider and the one with the pencil lead on it is the compass used to draw arcs and circles. I used the dividers to measure N.Miles on Admiralty Charts. The measurements were taken fron the Lat/Long scale at the side of the chart with them.

Thanks, all.   I have used them for both drawing circles and arc and measuring distance on a map.

I have convinced myself that we called them something else, though.  It eludes me

Calliper?

No, she was the Greek muse of poetry.

Surely that was Calliope

🙄

VAGUS, is that not a merry-go-round...?

Same as retrocop.
