https://www.theguardian.com/weather/2023/oct/05/tenerife-fires-wildfire-spain-canary-islands-heatwave-evacuation

'Popular tourist areas on Tenerife, part of the Canaries archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, have so far been unaffected and its two airports have been operating normally.'

'Firefighters backed by six water-dropping helicopters were battling the blaze, which broke out on Wednesday afternoon in an area of steep ravines in the north-east of the island that was badly ravaged by a huge wildfire in August, the regional government of Tenerife said.

About 2,400 people were evacuated from the town of Santa Ursula and another 600 from La Orotava as a precaution on Wednesday, the regional government’s vice-president, Lope Afonso, wrote on Facebook.'

seems fairly localised away from tourist areas.

unless gulliver has a different link for us....

The fires are only in the northeast of the island, which isn't a main tourist area.  The major resorts are unaffected and both airports are operating normally.

You've peed on Gulliver's parade now, Chris.  He was just building up to blaming Boris and Brexit.

This is a typical example of Gulliver's take on everything. Exaggerated crap.

Let he who is without sin cast the first climate change/illegals/dodgy biog claims/Keir Starmer post/insert random nonsense here.

I'm staying in Puerto de la cruz! And it's been really hot all day 33C displayed on a pharmacist sign at 11am

I'm in my hotel terrace now and I can smell burning wood, the mrs says it's just restaurants cooking!

I've said this before (many many times*) but it bears repeating.

The first Forum I ever joined had a strong site rule "If you don't agree, attack the post, not the poster"

I recognise that I do myself fall short occasionally in this respect, but it saddens me to see how much Gulliver is attacked.

*"Many many times" comes from the old Goon Show.  Who did it come from ?  I'll let you have some time to think about it before I tell you.

18.58 Chris, I to was a little apprehensive when we were arrived yesterday in the north of the island.

But luckily as you said the fires are not affecting the tourist areas!
