Heat Resist/Repel Window Film

This might be a silly question. I have a skylight window, in one room of my house that gets extremely hot in summer and extremely cold in winter. I applied a window film on the window that is meant to keep the sun's heat out of the room. It has a faint blue tinge as you look through it, but looking at it from the outside it makes the window look like a mirror. I can't find any info regarding whether I should peel it off in the winter, so that the room can warm up. I just find it puzzling if I am supposed to peel it off every autumn and buy new film every summer as it was a big hassle to apply. Does anyone know? Thank you

I would think the film would help insulate and keep the warm air in.

The sun is so low / weak (when it does shine!) it wouldn't make any difference for the few minutes it might shine through.

The film is designed to reflect heat. In summer the radiation from the sun is reflected to keep it out of the room so the room stays cool. In winter the film will stop heat radiating out of the room so keep the room warm.
Think of a window with a white net curtain hanging in front of it. In the daytime you can see out of the window but people outside can't see in. At night, when it's dark outside and you have a light on in the room, you can see inside the room from outside but people in the room can't see out; all they see is the net curtain.

Thank you for your answers. At the moment the sun is shining brightly right on that window and the window is warm to the touch on the inside pane (btw it's double glazed.) What do you think?

You can fit most skylight windows with a blind. It would make your room darker in winter, but would help reduce heat loss.

I think that if you go peeling things off it may be difficult to stick them back on later.
