Seat Ettiquette

I went to see the cricket at the ageas today. One of our intended party is currently in hospital so we had a spare seat next to us We put our coats on it and they were out of the way.
Half way through a friend of the people next to us came and plonked himself on the seat so he could talk to them(and sat on our coats!) i asked him for our coats back.
would i have been in my rights to ask him to move as it was my paid for seat, or would that be churlish?

You should have asked him to move, and let him know it was your paid-for seat and that's why you left your belongings on it.

You could have said your pal would be arriving soon and your coats were there to show you were keeping it for him or her.

Another option would have been for each of your pals to have asked him every minute or so if he would mind standing up so they could look through a coat for something or other and hope he got the message.

If nobody was going to sit on it what is the problem? Seems a bit petty to me.

I can't see any way in which sitting on strangers' coats could be anything but extremely rude.

seems to be a rising problem. so I am not suprised to see it here

B'ham New St - sat down on a bench and the gurl next to me said - in front of 4 other women who just "looked" - I thought it was a shill ( 4 accomplices) - " you dont have to be a white prock, you could ask" - but to the air kinda not to me

the gurlz went on looking. I went on looking as tho I was gonna croak

I asked for CCTV under the Data Act - and yup - as previously, there are extensive blind areas at New St as at Manch Picc. And for the railway authorities: if it isnt on video, it didnt occur

2. trains again - can I sit here? ( learnt see) Woman: no Me: why not? Woman it is not me but you can see it is reserved until Milton Keynes. Me Oh - I totter away
and totter back and say " I am sitting here and when they come I will move".

2b. end of same journey. Baggage from Egypt. Me: do you wish to come past? Other girl I cant. Me yes you can. Grl: no. Me do you realise that you said exactly the same 2 1/2 h ago ? I will shift your case for you.

Yup Girlie made difficulties as I was loading the cases into the over head rack going one way
at the end of the journey - going the other way, girl making same difficulties about getting past. incredz

2b. Lady - me do you wish to pass as well. Lady no - I am just looking at you. me I will be some time. Lady. I will look for some time. Me oh look someone is taking an interest in my other cases, 20 y away. Lady ( silent) Me this is a classic distraction robbery. Thank god we have video in this carriage and clear pictures of everyone involved. Lady ( still silent but less looky)

Chinese restaurant winter. three for dindins, waiting for the fourth. Overcoat was on the fourth chair. Late fourth arrived, oh cherie, cherie mwah mwah. when it came to leave, I found it on the floor, she had just thrown it on the floor on arrival.

Yesterday lady on train - bessie braddock, late arrival. Just before new street - she asked - are you feeling my thigh?
Me: no I am checking I have my wallet and mobile in my pocket before I leave.
Lunch to attend - I certainly DIDN't want 4 h at the police station instead. - thank god for video is all I can say

and I CONCLUDE that ladies' personal space - tje area around them that you have to ask, before invading
has got larger.

Me: man embarassed and I said oh I do this - you rely on them not turning up . Cowed man slinks away

5 mins later - Lady (Y) to (X) - that is my seat can I sit there please ?

Yes Lady X had been a blagger and booted out the fella on spec. There WERE other seats ( not table seats) available
