It's years since I've been. Is there plenty there for a 5-going-on-6-year old?

And is going in October half-term a bad, bad idea or is it okay and not too hectic around that time?

Ta muchly.

Half term will be extremely busy as it’s usually the last week of ‘the lights’.
If your five year old likes hanging round zombies drug addicts, doesn't mind gangs of drunk Glaswegians, lives on reheated burgers and enjoys grey sea with sewage and horizontal rain, Blackpool would be a great choice.
Blackpool certainly wouldn't be my first choice to take a youngster in the October break (especially as it's the busy illuminations season) but, if you're determined to do so, this might help:

Hated it - full of gangs of hen and stag parties all drunk and swaying along the prom from pub to pub. Very intimidating. I live not far from Gt Yarmouth and find that much more family friendly. Lots of kids attractions and arcades and a much nicer atmosphere.
