Do any of you have restless limb syndrome? How I describe my symptoms is I usually get an ache in my back that feels like it needs to be cracked, like a tension kind of feeling. Then it usually ends up with the irresistible urge to move my legs, having to shake them for a good while continuously. Now I could hold them still but the urge is too strong and I have to keep moving them. Sometimes it is in my arms occasionally and sometimes in my hip area. Anyone else experience this?

It's usually referred to as restless leg syndrome.

There have been numerous posts here about RLS:

There's a dedicated charity for the condition:

HealthUnlocked is a social network, supported by the NHS and many leading charities, providing forums for people with health problems. I strongly recommend joining HealthUnlocked (which I'm a member of) and posting on this forum:

Are you on any medication?
I know that some antidepressants can cause RLS.

Patsy- I take cod liver oil, vitamin d, biotin, finasteride, tumeric and black pepper, glucosamine sulphate, magnesium
Ah right. I know when I started on antidepressants, that's when I began having restless legs.
I wonder if it stems from your spine? Have you had a word with your doctor?
It might be worth getting your blood iron levels checked. Low iron leads to low dopamine which, in turn, can lead to RLS.
Remember too that caffeine and alcohol can both act as triggers for RLS.

Patsy- no I’ve not been to the doctors in a while
I know this is a truly distressing condition. It doesn't work for everyone but I genuinely find Magnesium helps - if I stop taking it the symptoms return.

Rosie29- I take magnesium every day because I’ve read magnesium helps prevent migraines which sometimes I get. But it hasn’t stopped RLS
My other half suffers, or suffered, from this.
He had blood tests and Doppler scans on his legs, what he suffers from is nothing like the ‘restless legs’ I had, and still have occasionally. His was dreadful, quite painful almost, and lasted hours.
He was prescribed Ropinirole at a low dose, which worked for a while. It was increased, then increased again, and now, touch wood, he’s been free of symptoms for a few months. He prefers to take Ropinirole than any of the other suggested medications, even though Ropinirole is not the first suggested medication for this distressing condition.
I would advise you to go to your GP and explain how this is impacting your life.
numerous posts - then nothing works - (sort of Chekhov really, he was talking about typhoid on Sakhalin))

some people find quinine useful ) as in indian tonic
There's about a dozen different forms of magnesium and they each have different actions on the body.
Several are good for restless legs.
