distance/speed = time

33/30 = time taken
Time taken (in hours) = distance (in miles) divided by speed (in mph)
So 33/30 = 1.1 hours
Multiply by 60 to get answer in minutes
1.1 x 60 = 66 minutes
It'd take an hour to do the first 30 miles.

It'd take a tenth of an hour to do the additional tenth of 30 miles. A tenth of an hour is 6 minutes.

60 minutes + 6 minutes = 66 minutes.
The way I do it is to think 60 mph is a minute a mile....so 33miles is 33 mins.
But this in only going at 30mph, that's half of 60mph so takes twice aslong...so 66 minutes as the others all said
Isn't it just simple mental arithmetic...33 miles is 30 miles plus a tenth, so it'll take an hour and a tenth ie 60 plus 6 minutes.
Seems that way gingerbee but not everyone sees things like this....am wondering what Saintpetr thought it was or why 66 mind seemed odd

My first thought was 33 minutes, it took me ages to work it out, maths is not my strong point, thanks everyone.
I think there is a set of people whose brains freeze when they think they have to do maths. I feel certain that, had the distance been 60 miles, StPeter would have had no difficulty giving the time; it's just that his brain told him that maths was involved and it froze.
66 mins as above did the contestant get it right?
Fascinating how many different ways there are of working it out.
If I was asked that question I would just say an hour and a bit!
I would do it the hour and a tenth way
30 miles in 60 minutes means 2 minutes for each mile....so 33 miles takes 33 z 2 = 66 mins.
All these aspersions of how to work it out look very similar to me...just break it down into steps....think about what 30 miles per hour means...treat it as a real life problem don't think ofit as maths because for some people just go into a panic thinking of school maths or li
elliemay, that sounds good, but I'm not sure my brain is quick enough these days to do that. Certainly sounds the simplest way to me.
