When Corbyn revealed this, the then International Trade Secretary Liz Truss described the claims as a “conspiracy theory”, saying that Corbyn was “getting desperate and is out-and-out lying to the public about what these documents contain”.

It now turns out that it was the Tories who were lying to the public all along.

//Why is the NHS such a "holy cow" when other countries with better health outcomes//

Probably because of the likes of Hynmie who howl you will have the US system, despite there being plenty of other good systems that appear to be better than what we have.
The point is that they denied the discussions were happening and in particular called jeremy corbyn a conspiracy theorist when they exposed them...

now however it seems that tories are ditching the previous line that these discussions never happened and are now switching to saying that there's no problem with it...

this is the trouble with debating a tory - any tory. every last one of them talks with a forked tongue... nothing matters more than the party. nothing.
The notorious TTIP was discussed extensively on AB, here is one example.

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1492431.html

Trump, bless him, one of the first things he did when he got in office was to killed off TTIP.

The new revelations just confirm the rumours at the time, that it would make our healthcare (NHS) vulnerable to US take over. The Government strenuously denied it at the time. Now it appears they were discussing that very prospect.
That the Government was lying through its teeth should be of no surprise to anyone awake in the last 13 years.
//any tory. every last one of them talks with a forked tongue//

Nonsense. That's speaking with a forked tongue.

The party that privatises the NHS will be committing political suicide. Boris knows that - and if they have any sense at all so does every other politician.

Actually, from the service I've received from the NHS just lately I wish they would privatise it. It couldn't be any worse.
Oh good, nice day on AB - and we have alighted on
This statement is a lie

well if it is TRUE, then it IS a lie and so untrue

typical day on AB.

[ Like "normal day on AB" well if it is normal then it is crazy like mad dog, and so not normal....carry on ABers]

Did you mean Tory Blair, YMB ?
Holy cow because there is no more civilised solution than the government who collects our taxes to spend for the common good, actually doing that when it comes to all the nation's citizens' health.

Anything else will either be private profit making organistions replicating the same system as the NHS, but lacking the same level of resources so vulnerable to market issues, or private profit making organisations catering well for the weathy who can afford to pay and leaving others to go without, because they're running a business not a charity.

You can't magic up improvements, you can only do what you can with what you have, and government sourced public money is a bigger resource that any private fortune someone is willing to spend.
I simply do not understand the nationwide beatification of the NHS.

It is a broken institution. There are 7m people waiting for treatment, some of it life saving, some of it to save them from debilitating pain and discomfort which prevents them enjoying a decent lifestyle. It clearly does not work.

Despite being over-run with managers, its is appallingly managed. Anyone who has had any dealings with it will testify to that. Yes still it blunders on, with more and more money being spent on it for ever decreasing favourable outcomes.

Yet any attempt to radically alter its model are met with howls of derision and contempt. I can only think that most people are quite happy to see it continue to flounder and worsen because unless some fundamental changes are made to it, that is all that will happen. Any discussions aimed at providing a solution should be encouraged.
the reason the NHS is in the state it is in is due to government policy over the last 13 years... effectively to cripple the ability of the health service in order to make a case for abolishing it

they will deny it now just like they denied the subject of the OP... only when it's a fait accompli will we get "well so what if they did, it was a good thing actually"
//the reason the NHS is in the state it is in is due to government policy over the last 13 years... effectively to cripple the ability of the health service in order to make a case for abolishing it//

What part of government policy (Covid measures aside) has crippled the ability of the NHS?

I don't think it needed much assistance from the government to make a case for abolishing it.
