Many, usually on the left, often denigrate the effort to retake the Falklands from an Argentine military junta. "war for penguins" - "god forsaken rocks" etc so do they think we should simply have ignored the invasion and let the islanders be annexed? Discuss.

yes but you did ask a question on the subject toratoratora... perhaps if contrary opinions on it offend you that was not a very wise thing to do

are you going to ask naomi to zap my posts too?

This was not a contrary opinion. It was deliberately using the wrong name for something.

untitled: "are you going to ask naomi to zap my posts too? " - no, you at least do give sensible debate. We often don't agree but I do respect your views. I do not have any respect for trolls like PP.

discuss means - "consider whether it was possible or beneficial". The Argentines did deffo. - think it was beneficial. The Spanith for 'The Falklands are Argentine" - really is Las M son Argentinas. And the pro-Galtieri faction went around shouting it. - along with Viva la patria and a few other things

Dr David Owen previous For Sec was there at the time, and immediately left. ( left-geddit??) and supported the tory govt. "we will get you out. we WILL"

Apparently this is what ALL politicans caught on the hope MUST do when wrong-footed - - - support the govt in power when sort of a war breaks out.

I remember this in real time. Chrissakes it was only 40 y ago

that reply did make me giggle
There was talk of oil there about the time of the Argentinian adventure. Did anything come of that?
There is a treaty that says the extent of Antartica 'owned' by a country is to do with the angle subtended by the land northerly

Hence the Falklands gave us right sunder that treaty - and if oil etc

I thought everyone knew that
Of course we did the right thing. It is all hotting-up to start all over again, however - and this time we have an unfriendly American President and a weakened army. I have a horrible feeling that we may also have lost the will. I very much hope I am wrong.
