This is a particularly obnoxious and invidious S C A M. If online anonymity was proscribed (ISPs would have to be more security-minded in allowing access) the perpetrators of such vile fraud could be pursued as criminals (which might need a new law).

It could be done if the will was there, but the DP mania and the over-riding drive for profits without accountability which currently exists permits such aberrations. As Scams cost the country billions at present, surely it would be a better commercial proposition.

Go on then, tell us your real name.
I doubt internet anonymity really exists. Most people leak enough info to be traced. I am sure gchq can find most of us if they need to

Zacs, look on FB where I am registered under my real name. Answerbank forbids it.
Then internet anonymity will never exist, will it?
Internet anonymity does exist. Walk in to a supermarket, buy a payg phone with cash. Get a PAYG SIM card, buy a credit top up voucher with cash and away you go.
Just don't use it at home or work
You can't abolish anonymity, end of. If you think it's possible tell me how.
That was going to be my next point, Tora.
has anybody watched "person of interest"? Its an american TV series.
Anyone who thinks that it is somehow possible to abolish anonymity on the net, does not understand the net.
A bit like quantum physics.
"Most people leak enough info to be traced."

Absolutely! The amount of times I've seen people announce that it's their birthday and then say how old they are, where they were born, tales of their primary school days, fond recollection of their first pet, etc. Not to mention things like "It always made my laugh that my dad, a Smith, married my mum, a Jones."
16:47, yes Mr Feynman apparently said: “If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.”.....though it's possible that it's an urban myth.
CANARY, "Zacs, look on FB where I am registered under my real name."

How can I look for you on Facebook without knowing your name in the first place?

What's to prevent you from using a fake name on Facebook?
