Does anyone remember what films scared them most when they were young? I was only about 10 or 12 when I saw House of Wax starring Vincent Price. I was scared stiff for years after seeing that. Still watch horror films to this day!

There are two films I was scared by, and love deeply as an adult.

One was 'The Haunting' based on the novella by Shirley Jackson, and the other was 'Dead Of Night', a portmanteau film - four stories contained in the main film.

Both are black and white, not a drop of blood to be seen, and they both scared me witless, and I still love them today.

I recommend both highly.
Plague of the zombies.
More TV show. Alfred Hitchcock, just looking at him scared me never mind his TV shows, but then again to young to really understand the strange story lines.
I can't remember cuz being the eldest meant i stayed up til 9pm, whereas the others were in bed by 8. Sadly this meant i always missed the late night horror film. I did once stay up to see the beginning of The haunted house on the haunted hill. I got to see the first 35 mins or so.Luckily that was enough, it almost produced brown underpants!!
Vincent Price movies certainly scared me as a youngster ( The Pit and the Pendulum for one example I recall, and something about Masque Of The Red Death, not sure of exact title).
I was petrified by Vincent Price in 'Fall of the house of Usher' when I saw it aged about 16 and it would still scare me now. The other film that terrified me was 'The Shining'.
Quatermass and the pit, terrifying, could only watch from behind the settee!
johnk, your film sounds seriously scarey! Will check it out.
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark - think it may have been a tv movie. Those little gremlin creatures dragging people through a portal to hell.

Oops can someone delete the link it was from the music thread!
Ha ha johnk. I remember Quatermass, if only we had known that someone was standing behind a cardboard cut cave, flashing a torch on and off. :o>
