On what we base our beliefs ultimately determines how well our choices and actions conform to the reality that ultimately determines how detrimental or beneficial those beliefs turn out to be. Beliefs are only as good as the veracity of the knowledge of reality that validates them.
Outcomes can only be reliably predicted by understanding the causal nature of the events which lead up to and bring about a certain effect. That's the nature of the most successful predictive agent of all, the scientific method. All the same, even science must not be revered as a god but its methods understood and fostered as an evolving entity.

Hi jno, I'm sure that you won't mind me disagreeing with you over the statement you made on constellations, here is why. The orbit of earth around the sun is outside the orbit of venus, therefore from earth we see the constellations from a baseline that has extremities 180 million miles apart hgive or take a few million miles. The view of the constellations from venus would be from a smaller baseline within the earth's orbit. The constellations in theory would appear to change more from the earth throughout the year than they would from venus throughout its year. As the solar system is travelling through space it is possible for the earth and venus to occupy the same part of space momentarily, but not at the same time. So, although unlikely we on earth can have the same view of the constellations as we would have had we been on venus (although the atmosphere of venus would make it impossible anyway). I hope this has clarified your view of the universe.
I've always been happy to listen to and consider other peoples' various claims, opinions, theories, ideas etc. - provided the person I'm listening to then qualifies and supports such claims with credible facts. We would all love to be presented with absolute proof of the existence of ghosts, the afterlife, the Loch Ness Monster and alien visitors and I've always be prepared to listen to advocates of astrology. However, I have never heard one such claimant proceed to support their ideas with proven facts and mechanisms by which they operate or exist.
I've never heard an astrologer or believer explain how the location of the planet in space and it's relation to surrounding astronomical bodies at the time of a birth can affect a person's personality or course of life. There are only four forces in Nature - the two nuclear forces, gravity and electromagnetism. The position of astronomical bodies could only affect a person at birth electromagnetically or gravitationally, but those forces would be so weak and there's no process for them to affect a person's make-up anyway. For that reason astrology has to be dismissed as nonsense. However, before anyone dismisses me as closed-minded, I am still prepared to listen to any explanation of a mechanism by which astrology works. I would like to be proved wrong!
(Secondly, why is it invariably women who seem to believe in astrology and witter on about star-signs?)

Astrology is a pseudo science and not a science. It is in fact quite accurate. It is based mainly on the planet Moon and particularly Moon in 3rd house in the astrology chart.
