They are highly aggressive creatures at times - very scary indeed !
They are indeed.

They are highly territorial, and seriously aggressive, and as the link confirms, they kill around five hundred people a year in Africa, basically because any animal, humans included, that crosses their territory, is liable to be attacked and killed.
With a gob like the Dartford Tunnel too

I saw one clamp its jaw around a adult lion's head, shake it from side to side and then essentially "fling" it. The lion lay down subdued and the Narrator said that the lion will certainly die of its injuries.
Apparently, for all their image as serious predators, lions are absolutely no match for hippos, and in a fight, the lion will usually lose, often sustaining fatal injuries.
What a lucky young lad.
