I always think how camp Jack Benny was in his stage persona, although of course that sort of thing was not discussed then.

As you will know Benny had a reputation for being mean with his money, something he played on in his act. There was a sketch where a hoodlum holds him at gunpoint & says "Your money or your life " ............ pause,.. "I said your money or your life, what are you waiting for?"
Benny: "I'm thinking about it "
