Watching the football, thinking particularly when England or Wales are playing, there seems to be a lot of children in the crowd. I thought you needed permission now to let the children miss schooling, surely going to watch the footy ain't a good enough reason.

Are there many England or Wales weekday matches? (I am not a football fan,and associate the game with evenings and weekends.)

It wouldn't be feasible to think they would travel back and fore for each game, once they over there they stay till their team are knocked out, not long to wait if your welsh!! and I am..
I nipped out to the shops earlier and there were kids everywhere! This was 1.30ish. Anything from 4 to 13-year olds. I huffed and I puffed round the various stores thinking "why aren't you in school?". It was like a weekend!!!
When I was a kid, school started at 9 and finished at 4. No kids disappeared during the school terms to go on holidays. It's all changd now.
The only infringement I am aware of was when one day I absent-mindedly wandered off home at afternoon playtime, thinking it was the end of the school day. Of course, I was always a dreamy kid, head full of tea-packet cards of the planets and Biggles's latest adventures.
The only sport we watched was live - Wigan thrashing some team or other at Central Park (in Wigan, of course) on a Saturday afternoon.

Well I was under the impression it is all strictly controlled now, with fines for unauthorised absences etc.
We were thinking perhaps their Dad’s worked in Qatar and they were schooled in the British workers compounds maybe
Or their mothers as nurses et
I dare say there will be those who have flown out there for the duration and have taken kids with them. If they can afford to do that, they can probably afford any fine incurred.

That's a thought, they may be living out there, good point bobbie..
Some of the kids you are seeing are the players own children. Such as young Jaxson Duke :-)

I guess the private schools they attend got different rules to our state primary and comps..
Permission is only needed to take the children out of school for holidays during term time. If permission is refused, a fine could ensue. Days off can be taken with a phone call or email to the school, as with sickness. Don't know why there were so many children around at 1.30. Perhaps there was some kind of staff training taking place in the afternoon. It does happen occasionally.
