23 //The Earl of Merioneth was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom created in 1947 along with the Duke of Edinburgh and the Baron Greenwich for Philip Mountbatten, later Prince Philip, upon his marriage to Princess Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth II.//
6 to toast the queen
Clue is past tense so would it be 'toasted'? I still don't get the 'tan' reference

Have googled as you said , still non the wiser . Just don’t get it . Sorry!
But thanks anyway. Will take your word for it!
For no. 23, I believe Prince Charles inherited the title from his father on Philips death and he takes it with him on becoming King. I have Charles for the answer to no 1 also.
Prince Charles can't hold the title now he's King.
Found this:
//In 2021, he furthermore inherited the titles Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich upon the death of his father, Prince Philip. When he became the British sovereign himself on 8 September 2022, these titles merged with the Crown.//
