Hi Lankeela - I have been reading some of your answers on here and you seem incredibly clued up on all things animal related! I just wondered, are you a vet? If so, could you give me some advice on Animal studies???

No way, not a vet, just too sad to have anything else to do other than to learn about all things doggy! If I don't know I usually know a man who can, or who knows where to find the answer.

What sort of thing are you interested in? Is this practical study or academic, and do you intend working with animals? Let me know what you are looking for and I will try to put you in touch with someone who can help. A rough idea of your area would help to.
...Lankeela is just using the internet, at least in some instances, as do many of us when we give answers.........ain't that right lankeela?

An example would be the post by meeka on antlers.......here's the website lankeela's answer came from.........word for word.

.............. <G>
I think you will find ProperBopeep is the vet
Either way lankeela I for one am always interested in your answers as they never disappoint. So please keep up the good work. :o)
Commoner, I don't know if that is supposed to be a bit of a dig at lankeela, by pointing out that she has used the net by means of including a website where she got her info??

Why not!! she clearly states her thing is dogs!!

I for one have found Lankeelas's answers extremely informative and if she gets them off the net or not is really irrelevant.

I dont see any where that states we must divulge our sources!!

I have cut and pasted off the net as many others have, im sure. Sometimes it is a lot easier than posting a link and have the enquirer spend ages looking through irrelevant text.

Keep it up Lankeela!!
i agree,i always find lankeelas answers excellent, and i dont care where she gets her info from, shes always helpful.xxxxxxxx
I whole hartedly agree with Ratter and others, I'm sure lots of people use whatever refferance source that comes to hand, be it books or the net, usually its to back up what they know already.
At the end of the day, if the person that asked the question is saticfide with the answer then thats all that really matters and thats good enough for Me!! Tbird+
Ps keep up the good answers!!
...I have no problem with the source of lankeelas answers but it would be nicer to perhaps say so...like "here's a link I found" or maybe "I found the following on the web" followed by the text.........not to give the impression that you are "incredibly clued up" which is the impression that morbidstorm oviously got............

You guys have your opinion and I have mine.........mine happens to be as I have stated...........nothing else!

Seconds away, round two!

Yes I do use the internet., and also my extensive library of (mostly) dog books. Even if I think I know the answer I like to check my facts, and often (as in the antler case) I find myself very interested in what I find. I do have a lot of experience in the dog world, and a lot of contacts who are also very knowledgeable. I often ask questions of them myself and we share our experiences and ideas on several dog sites.

If I find a site which is of general interest I like to post it to let other people learn from it as well, such as the one on poisonous substances.

I also recently read up on bats after a question on here. Soon after, someone posted having had their son bitten by a bat. I remembered reading that there was a place that specialises in bats, and when I looked up the article again it gave a name and phone number for a lady who is an expert, so I posted this which I hope helped the person who was worried about their son.

I haven't yet learnt how to copy the link, other than typing it in full, so if anyone can tell me how I would be grateful. I would also love to know how you put 'click here' and get taken straight to another site.

One of the questions today was about a staffie that was not well. It sounded to me like a case of pyometra, which one of my dogs had, so I recognised the symptoms. I chose not to answer the post other than to agree with a previous poster, as everything they had said was correct.

I do get cross when people come on here to ask for advice on serious conditions, when they should be taking their animals straight to a vet - that is where mine go if I have any doubts as to their health.
Just as a matter of interest, THIS is the link to the site about the antlers!

Good Grief, I didn't mean to cause such a commotion,,and I certainly didn't want an attack on Lankeela.

Internet based or not, you are a great help to a very large number of people on this site, and There are many many more than those who have commented above who strongly apprieciate having you as a source of advice.

My interest is mainly animal behaviourisms, but I am also interested to some degree in aminal pysiology and vetinary science. I am not disillusioned enough to believe I could ever become a vet, but an unqualified knowledge of these topics would make me very happy in myself.

My Plans are to teach myself these topics, I just wondered if you know of any good places/books/websites that would help me on my journey?

p.s. I am in Blackpool, Lancashire, and I am 25.if you needed to know!
The Animal Care College runs correspondence courses in practical and theoretical studies concerning small animals.
I am sure you would be able to find something of interest to you.

Although I DID look this up on the internet, I actually did their Diploma of Kennel Management and I personally know David Cavill, who together with his wife Angela started the courses as a way of improving the eduction of dog show judges. The rest is history as they say!
