Daughter was booking a tea party for her sons birthday in a local Cafe which is now hosting them. The proprietor ask what was the name.

Her married name is Hogg, the woman started laughing and said "like as in" and then started making oinking and snorting noises! Daughter just ignored this and just spelled in out for her.

I was horrified by this rudeness but she just shrugged it off and said she was used to it.

I know the children have had some teasing at school because of it but when a grown adult, a supposed business woman, does this to a customer i think its darn rude, dont you?

Darcy, what would happen if the proprietor made fun of a disabled person, someone with a stammer, a very overweight person. I really would book somewhere else and give my reason.

Utterly bizarre.
I’d have gone elsewhere.
And a “Hogg” is actually a sheep so she should have said “baa” not oink

Thanks for all your comments, I'm not easily offended and im not really but i thought it was just plain rude. Daughters not too bothered so its up to her but if it had been me i would have gone elsewhere.

The woman actually owns the place, i wont be going back.
Gness is right when she said, what if she says something to a disabled or overweight person?
Yes, I think it's rude and childish ! Why would a grown woman behave like that over a name - silly moo ...
they wouldn't have got my booking. Naomi is right about people learning about the world and one of the things they need to learn is that rudeness gets its comeuppance.

Indeed
It is rude, but a raised eyebrow should have been sufficient response. Sounds like your daughter has it under sufficient control.
I like to think that most people don't set out to offend so, if somebody says something which could be offensive, I just ignore it. If it was meant to be offensive then you have won by not reacting to it. If it wasn't meant to be offensive than no harm is done.
^^^yes , but how immature for an adult relying on the custom of her guest
one of the things they need to learn is that rudeness gets its comeuppance.
erm not something anyone learns on AB if I might point out.....
How old is this proprietor - 6 ?
a relation in the police enjoys overhearing - how old is she then, 16?
