A friend's child just returned from a school residential trip. The children spend this week at a residential place with outdoor activities etc. One of the activities provider called my friend's child by the hair colour when he call other children by their names. Obviously the child is upset and told the parent when returned home.
I don't think this is acceptable to call any one by their hair colour. What do posters think?
Bear in mind the child is ethnic minority background. So the child as the parent is the person behavior being racist.
I personally don't think it is a racist thing, but I would not call someone like that especially people have name to refer to.

/// the helper was unable to remember the child's name ///

Precisely the point I was making earlier - because the adult is too stupid to do their job properly, they degrade the poor kid.

Totally unacceptable.

The adult should take responsibility for their situation and say something like,"I'm sorry but I'm too stupid to remember your name, remind me please".

Myself is not black, but I would think it is more appropriate to call a black person like African person. It's like, I would not call an Indian person Indian unless I am 100% sure it's Indian, otherwise I will call that Asian person.
Interesting fact....
All 5 of George Foreman's sons were named George.

No it is not!

However, I have a particularly unusual surname which causes
some to mispronounce. (Dont know why as it it is only a 3 syllable name)

During my time detained at her Majesty's Pleasure, I was
Invariably pronounced by my prison number rather than my name.
(eg... Reese, Bennett, wooldridge, 1253, to the gate please)

Lazyness on the part of both screws (in my case) and the
teachers (in your case) to even address the issue of pronounciation!
