Occaisionally when on my laptop, my location is set as some 100 miles from home. Its been the same since I bought it and its not somewhere I have been, so not left over form a previous use. If I use Google its fine, but today I clicked on a link for a list of cinemas showing a live screening and it gave me the venues 100 miles away.

Where would this setting be found?

are you sure you want your computer to know where you live? I'm always quite chuffed when my antivirus warns me "any hacker could find where you live in Glasgow", because I'm in London.

Yes I'm sure thanks jno, hence the question posted under Technology.
Try this:

Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Location.

Check that 'Location for this device is on' is shown.

Make sure that 'Allow apps to access your location' is 'On'.

Under 'Default location', click 'Set default'.

Click on your location on the map.

Checked all of that Chris and its fine, everything is switched on and the map is showing my home location.
You might need to check the location settings for your browser, as well as for Windows.

You've not said which browser you use but, if it's Chrome, see here:
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/142065?hl=en-GB&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop

You should also be aware that the location used by websites is the one given by your IP address, which will be where your ISP's server is located, rather than your own address. (To see where that is, click here: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ ).
sorry, Maydup, no offence intended.

I'm using Edge Chris
Its based on your ip address.

Unless you have a static ip address, then you may have one that has been previously used by somebody else elsewhere.
