Funny how nothing that happens make the religious doubt their devotion.

I think it does make them doubt their devotion. The essence of any mainstream religion is believing that your deity loves and cares for you, in the face of overwhelming minute-by-minute evidence that he couldn't care less. This puts an immense strain on the concept of belief, while simultaneously being a major strut in its support system. People who believe...

BTW - several POLICE OFICERS wouldn't wade into a waist deep pond to try to save a drowning teenager. Elf & Safety RULES - OK!
Davebro: Link?
Would you have waded in to save a drowning teenager? Do you think that police officers are cowardly?
yes & yes - because I have been on a water life-saving course & know what to do. (so should they have been )
it was 4 or 5 years ago - I'm not gonna look for a link
Davebro. You've never done it, but you were trained to do it. I bet you would have gone in instinctively if the situation had arisen. Maybe the cops would have followed instinct, but perhaps they were trained to follow procedures. The trouble is nowadays that everyone with a responsible job has box-tickers and target-recorders breathing down their necks, and no-one is trusted to be good at their job and left to get on with it. And the box-tickers and target-recorders are put there by the government. Teachers are told how to teach by the current politician in charge, and so on. There seems to be no respect for people who have dedicated themselves to a job that they love and work hard for.
There are procedures for water rescue I would follow -
//Reach, Throw, Row, and Go” are the basics for rescuing someone in the water. Once you know the steps, create a drill //

The last is wade in & if too deep then swim (with a buoyancy aid if available). If the casualty can respond calm them before making contact. Then effect the rescue.
I think it does make them doubt their devotion.

chrissakes it is called the 'problem of evil' (*)
been around for at least 2000 y - the problem that is!

why does God Punish us when we dont know what we have done wrong ? ( Jeremiah did hur hur hur)

I think it is called Theodicy

and yes I noticed Hurricanes in America and the profusion of " Ah prayed to gard and he saved me" videos
and the absolute silence this time

Davebro; thanks for explaining the "elf and safety" procedure that you would have followed. It helps people like me to understand why bobbies sometimes don't just immediately dive in and do their human instinctive duty to save a child. I'd prefer it if they followed their instincts, and I'm sure most of them do that.

I'd prefer if it they did what they should be trained to do!

If you haven't got the kit available it only takes a few moments to get down to the wade in stage (you should never dive).
Wow, this thread makes some grim reading. Over a thousand people killed by a natural disaster and some on this page use it as an excuse to belittle their faith.

Staying classy, eh?
They shoulda thought about that when they decided they couldn't integrate with India in 1947. Jinnah has a lot to answer for.
Davebro @ 20.43,,,,,, You are Pathetic ....
No way TTT and NAOMI can believe in the christian faith .In reality if you believe and follow christianity it is impossible to espouse tory policies and attitudes to disabled people and asylum seekers and economic migrants.
