If I were you, I'd take on a lease deal which includes maintenance because then you are not liable for anything that might go wrong with the car and watch the excess if they stipulate a maximum mileage, some of them can really soak you! When you are handing the car back, lease companies can get quite pedantic about damage to the car, even stonechips. I guess it just depends on the company you deal with, they all differ, so read the small print before you sign on the dotted.
The most obvious one I can think of is the 1 seris is crap and you'll look like a desperate ****.

Im a fleet manager so leasing is my forte (for once!) bluejonjo is correct, by saying the series1 is a pile a steaming cack.

I would only really recommend Contract Hire if the vehicle is going through the company, due to tax etc. If the vehcile is for your won personal use, you may want to consider PCP (Personal Contract Purchase). This contract allows you to buy the car at the end of the lease.

The probs you get at the end of lease with contract hire, is the costs based on damage to the vehicle and whether any of it is wear and tear or plain driver abuse. If its the latter, the costs will fall to you and high costs. Also you will be charged mileage excesses. If you have a contract on 30 for the whole contract term and the vehicle goes back over that, you will be charged for it. Of course, during the contract you are able to amend the mileage, but this will require a recalculation - more mileage = increase in mobthly rentals. You may also want to look at Finance Lease - no point me rabbiting on! Look at www.bvrla.co.uk (leasing body). Best leaing companies are LEX and Leaseplan. Best to go through a broker or franchised dealer of a lease company, as they can get better deals. Let me know where you are and I can hopefully point you in the right direction. Lastly......DONT BUY A SERIES 1 BMW....they suck bug time!

...be advised that BVRLA make the rules on what is considered fair wear and tear and driver abuse. Look at their site it should have the Industry Fair Wear and Tear Standard. THis is for drivers of contract hired and leased vehicles.
The up frony payment is basically thr VAT - the vat on the whole period has to be paid in advance - inland revenue won't wait.
