I've just got a new Lenovo laptop which I really like, but when I tried to install OpenOffice I got the message:

"For security and performance, Windows 10 in S mode runs Microsoft-verified apps. To get this app you'll need to switch out of S mode"

I've found how to do this, but is it safe to do so, and can I turn it back on after I've installed OpenOffice?

Yes, it's absolutely safe. S mode is a marketing ploy by Microsoft to get you to buy through the Microsoft App store.

Ah, thanks for that, thought it might be! I think you also have to switch out of it to download Chrome or any other browser. I'll go ahead.
>>> but is it safe to do so

Yes.

>>> and can I turn it back on after I've installed OpenOffice?

No - but, as TC indicates, you don't need it anyway.

BTW, did you see this?

Aw Chris, that's lovely. We can only hope the maniac Putin is halted soon.

Love my new laptop - can't believe how fast it is compared to my 13-year-old Compaq! Turned off S mode and OpenOffice downloaded in seconds.
