I think it’s quite a new term. I hadn’t heard it up until a year ago or so.
The origins aren't new but the term itself is rekatively recent.

Thanks guys. It was new to me.
It's named after the 1944 film Gaslight so it's not new
I bet you've not heard of teabagging either.
It's certainly not new to me either. I'm talking decades.
