I’ve been experiencing some soreness in, I think, the bit from my throat to my ear but only when I swallow.
I don’t get earache at all, it’s just when I swallow I’m very aware of some what I would call soreness.
I asked doctor Google (sorry Sqad) and he told me it could be an ear infection which would probably sort itself out, but in the meantime to take non steroidal anti inflammatories (ibruprofen I guess) which I’ve been doing.
So, Doctor Sqad, am I doing the right thing? Anything else I could do to help myself?? (I’ve not poked it or shoved anything down my ear).
Thank you kindly for your advice.

Well what better advice than Dr Google?-;)

Now, I assume that this is a recent event..perhaps the last week or two and no problems with your hearing or difficulties in swallowing?

I don't care for Dr Google's diagnosis .

My first thoughts based on the assumptions that I have made above is that it is a psychosomatic problem...an anxiety or depressive problem.
Not a popular diagnosis I appreciate, but that is my opinion.

Yes, carry on with Dr. GOOGLE'S advice and come back to me in a week.
Vagus.....just had my hot chocolate and cheese in preparation for Silent Witness which I have recorded.
So I may be lapse in any replies.

What better advice than doctor google...well, Doctor Sqad for one!
It’s been the last four or five days, ibruprofen sorts it till the next dose is due.
Anxiety or depressive problem? Gosh, I don’t suffer from either as far as I’m aware so doubt that’s at the bottom of it :/
Ok, thanks for your advice/opinion anyway.
Sounds like referred pain from a sore throat (or potential sore throat that is being controlled by painkillers)

Hot chocolate and cheese, surely a mixture for a headache? Or vomiting... ;)
Question Author
I doubt very much it’s my throat sj, I feel the soreness in my ear really, not my throat.
Anyhow, will monitor the situation ;)
No advice from me vagus.
But, hot chocolate and CHEESE?? Just reading that made my stomach turn over...
How's you problem today Vagus?
Question Author
Seems to be easing a bit, thanks Sqad, haven’t taken any ibruprofen as I’ve not eaten yet. Think I’ll take some after lunch though, as I am still aware of it.
I found your suggestion of the cause very interesting, did you come across psychosomatic sore ears/throats much during your working life?
I’m not saying mine definitely isn’t that but I’d be very, very surprised if it is.
Well, surprisingly...yes.
Not sore throats or sore ears, but odd feelings in the Estachian tubes, similar to what you are describing.

I enquired in my reply about deafness or difficulty in swallowing, but received no response from you.

I am getting more interested in the post of 237 SJ @2031 yesterday.........-;)

Beg your pardon Sqad, totally overlooked your question.
No, no deafness but I do have tinnitus, had it for many many years. And no difficulty swallowing.
Whatever it is, it’s fairly mild pain/soreness. My concern was it was the beginning of a full blown ear infection, especially with the weekend upon us and no GP available.
Anyhow, thanks again for your thought x
O.K vagus whatever the cause, you should have a pain and infection free weekend.
