AH. I wasn’t thinking of his youth - we all do daft things when we’re young and silly. He’s done a long stint in the army, including Afghanistan, his work with veterans is commendable, he carried out his royal duties as the rest of the senior royals do, and he was very personable and popular, so credit where it’s due.

You're right, we do all do stupid things in our youth.
But part of the cost for a life of unheard of privelidge and public admiration is the small considertations of acting like an adult when you are one, and thinking before you speak.
Fulfilling hardly arduous royal duties when matched against the recompense for them does not give him a lifetime swerve from behaving like the married man and father he now is.
Similarly, millions of young men have served in the armed forces, and huge numbers of them have not returned - again, a life he chose for a period of time is not a 'get-out-of-jail free card to be a whining out-of-touch sap to American fawning for ever more.
If you consider Harry's time since he left the army, he can hardly be said to have made anything approaching a genuine contribution to the betterment of the country that supports him with a millionaire lifestyle - dreaming up a 'games' doesn;t really cut it in my book.
He could confine himself to sensible proncouncements that will actually be heard in the conext they are made, and stop making pointless soundbytes that do nothing except wind up the people they are aimed at.

I sympathised deeply with Harry when he was forced to leave the armed forces.
I think that was the first and last time in his life where he could be treated as anything approaching a normal person, the same as the rest.
Coupled with the fact that he clearly had an aptitude for the life, and earned the genuine respect of the men he commanded, it must have been really hard to leave that life and return to the rarified atmosphere of royalty.
As you say, we can't know how that affected him, but i did, and do, feel sorry that he was not able to carry on doing something he both enjoyed, and was good at.
Further to my previous posts, I honestly think that Harry is a decent man who tries to do the right thing.
But i keep coming back to my point - his sincerely and belief in what he says is never going to be enough, and he doesn;t appear to understand that.
What he says, how he says it, and to whom he says it, has to be filtered through the larger picture, that he is seen as a privelidged royal who is doing little to retain any respect and affection he may have gained thus far.
Not for nothing does the Queen say very very little.

No - but the difference is, they are far more careful about what they say, who they say it to, and the way they say it - lessons that Harry has yet to learn.

Of course he's right, if we lived in an ideal World or if we dared to take the risk - many aren't in that position.
I know a coup;e of people who literally shelved the rat race and dared to try and fulfil their dreams but for so many with responsibilities it really isn't an option.

erm as a fifteen year old I noticed he was v happy before he married and v unhappy after
