Our front lawn was turfed over 2 years ago but it now seems that most of it has died. I know we have had huge amount of rain but only parts of the lawn are green at the moment.

Will it recover? Also there are a lot of weeds in the grass now which does not look nice as this is lawn is in the front garden!

it probably will. it takes alot to kill grass !
It sounds like the ground was never prepared properly in the first place, but I could be wrong. just make sure it never gets too dry again and it may well recover in the spring, you could also buy some grass seed and sprinkle after first giving the ground a good raking.
Have you aerated the lawn? if not get a garden fork and have a go , the soil maybe to compacted , so it wont let the water drain and feed the grass roots, as for the weeds google and see what you can put down to kill off the weeds whilst being ok for pets etc
Don't use weed killer until your lawn has fully recovered.
If you are saying that it died in the dry spell we had over the summer, rather than over the 2 years, then yes, it will highly likely recover. We had an expanse of brown, dead grass this summer and it's already starting to sprout green again.
I'm having the same problem over the same time scale but I'm also noticing LOADS of mushrooms growing in mine :-( which I'd happily swap for your weeds
