Is wearing a poppy an example of Virtue Signalling ?

I heard it described as such today. Personally I believe it to be a sign of respect to our Armed Forces. Lest we forget.

what do you know about canary's company togo?
// likely choice of company.//

My assesment was based on the years of non stop denigration of U.K.s past, and predictions of doom for it's future, that have been posted on this very site. Like minded people tend to gather in support groups. I will not, at this juncture, enquire as to your source of reason and I feel that the time to locate it would be time wasted.
but canary has already said he sees it as a sign of respect. Therefore if you are making assumptions about his company, you should assume the company he keeps think the same, surely?
also, i'd appreciate it if you werent so insulting to me
It's far easier to have a pop at the OP rather than just answer the question from your own point of view - unnecessary but all too frequent.
Now you are assuming that he is always being truthful. I have no such luxury to use as a basis to form a premise.
"the years of non stop denigration of U.K.s past, and predictions of doom for it's future, that have been posted on this very site."
perhaps canay is being untruthful then too?
Happy to believe that, but not happy to believe todays post?
No, wearing a poppy is no more virtue signalling than wearing rainbow or anti-racism badges. If you support a cause, be proud to display it.
Wear your Poppy With Pride.
I have worn a poppy since toddlerhood. I remember crying bitterly because I had lost one, I really did, I was so bereft. I wear one as a sign of respect. This Sunday my husband (88) will carry the flag to the altar, because he is the oldest ex-serviceman in the village. He will wear his badges and a poppy. I shall feel very proud and he will feel that he has honoured men like him.
Its a mark of respect, nothing more, nothing less.We must never let the fallen be forgotten.
it is an example of virtue signalling yes…. it is worn in order to literally “show” others you are being respectful toward the fall.

it isn’t necessarily a bad thing to virtue-signal and we all sometimes signal our virtues (in this case respect and humility) so go ahead and wear one if you want to!!
It’s a choice we have , like Pat says, I certainly wouldn’t think bad of anyone who chooses not to wear one , me personally, I wear mind with pride
No, simply a mark of respect, I was going to change my avatar to a poppy today but too awkward using phone.
To call it Virtue Signalling is insulting. All the poppy is is a form of respect for our dead servicemen and women.
"virtue signalling" is just an abusive term for someone who respects things you don't like.
