I have recently got an American Express card but have been disappointed in the number of outlets that still don't accept this form of payment, including La Redoute, Tchibo, and my car insurance company. Is there a list anywhere on the net of companies that don't/do take Amex? I have been unable to find this on the Amex website. Does anyone have experience of this form of payment being refused?

This has been the subject of NUMEROUS comments on this site. By now, I would have thought the whole world knew the drawbacks to Amex, obviously blinky doesn`t

No BINKY doesn't. When I was asked whether I wanted to post the question or not, no other questions/answers on American Express came up, so I posted it. I have since done a search myself and still found nothing.
The positive side to the Amex card is it is linked to Nectar and I get double nectar points.
I used to have a Amex card with my company and it was usually taken at corporate places like hotels, airports, car hire etc.

Rarely would "ordinairy" shops or restaurants take it.

I think they charge more for transactions than Mastercard and Visa and if I was you I would also get one of those for places that will not take Amex.
Many years ago, when I ran a shop, we negotiatied the following rates: 2.5% for Visa / Mastercard, 40p for switch / delta and the best rate we could get for AmEx was 4%. We elected not to take it !!!
I can't understand why AMEX exists as you say it''s not accepted in anywhere near as many palaces as Mastercard etc. I have looked at it myself but thought 'what's the point' I was attracted by the cashback it offered but it's no use carrying it and not been able to use it wherever you want.
