Better for armchair amateurs not to worry people unnecessarily in the first place. The ‘experts’ do that without any help.
Isn't it time the media stopped quoting the infection rates every day?
I wish they would, Dave.
//new judge it was not aimed at you//

Apologies, johnny, I thought it was.

//I don't agree, obviously, but in this case also because it's nice to be pleasantly surprised from time to time.//

Indeed it is, Jim. Sorry I missed out your “difficult to predict” line. Indeed such things are difficult to predict. The trouble is, the government has had a habit of taking the predictions of things that are difficult to predict at their worst case scenarios. Some of the predictions have had such ridiculously broad ranges that they are effectively of no use whatsoever.

The government’s entire strategy has been based around scaring the population into compliance. And still it goes on and it is about time it stopped. Still we see people roaming around the street in face masks; still we hear of people afraid to go out or mix with other people; still we hear of people who won’t travel on public transport “because it’s too dangerous”; still there are people who will not return to their places of work. There has been no guidance provided to help people properly assess the risk they face when deciding how they will behave in the face of what is now an endemic disease. The advantages that the country gained from its superb vaccination programme have been lost because of that lack of guidance.

This country is already condemned to decades of thrift in order to repay the debt accrued as a result of the way the pandemic has been handled. The health service is overwhelmed, not by Covid cases but by all the other conditions that claim far more lives each and every day. GPs have taken the opportunity to scale back their services to a greater degree than when Mr Blair gave them twice the money for half the work in 2003 (or maybe 2004, can’t remember). Since they are the "gatekeepers" to the people who know what they are talking about, specialist attention is almost impossible to secure. Somebody needs to get a grip and I don’t see any of the current occupants of the government Front Bench being either willing or able to do so. But the very last thing they need to do is to threaten further lock downs.
Well I've just had a quick flick through this thread, and I must say TTT you've given me the best laugh I've had in ages @14.35. It appears you think Gromit relishes in every daily difficulty this nation has. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you relish in every daily political difficulty this nation has, or go out of your way to hunt one down?

god there would be no posts on AB if that were enforced

I note that Nicola S is debating a scots lock down
almost 6 weeks to the day ....
That foot you keep shooting yourself in, PP, must be getting pretty sore by now.
