Some will connect appliances up if you pay extra, same for taking it away.

I'm never that bothered how it looks - only sits in the utility room so I go by specs and reviews (on numerous sites).

I find it much easier to get the relevant information about each machine and compare online than in the shop when the seller chooses the tiny bit of information to display. You can usually download and read the manuals online, too, which I find very helpful before buying.

Easier to compare prices and shop around online, too. What can you tell about how well a washing machine does its job just by looking at it in the shop?

Have a look at John Lewis on line. Their service is excellent, and they usually give an extra year's guarantee free.

In my experience John Lewis "service" is awful. Go anywhere but there.

I recently had new machine. I visited Currys and they wanted to charge for delivery so looked online and found same washing machine at John Lewis for same price with as Hopkirk says an extra year warranty. It did go faulty after 2 weeks and they changed it for a new one straight away so very good service from them I thought. I have bought from Currys before and found if you find what you want instore then come home and order there has been no delivery charge.
