China, where this pandemic all started, seem to have it under control now and cases seem smaller, what are they doing that we aren't?

Lying, maybe.
They are an authoritarian communist state, you are put in prison if you do not obey orders, you just cannot compare to the outside world.
I can't take the reported figures from China seriously at the start of the pandemic, but it's likely that it now *is* under control there. It's rather a lot easier to control a pandemic when you have effectively total authority to order citizens to stay in their homes, which is what was done in Wuhan over February (with a few exceptions). It was a far stricter lockdown than anything implemented here or in Europe.

I don't think this is a model to aspire to, exactly, in particular because it also followed suppression of the story and intimidation of doctors who first reported it, at least a few of whom (including Li Wenliang) subsequently died of the disease themselves.
total lockdown - they follow their leaders commands. Communist isn;t noted for their dissention, as pointed out those that do are either dead from the virus or removed somehow.
you can't get much info out of China or so it would seem - i have googled endless reports but come up a blank as to true figures of the dead.
lieing.....
I've always been dubious about their reported figures. This from a government that has a way of making people disappear without batting an eyelid.
Trust nothing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) says, they lie & have more than a billion people under a terrifying dictatorship. Facial recognition allows then to control the population who all now have points system categorization, use a pedestrian crossing wrongly & you lose points which are used when you apply for housing or employment.

Anyone speaking of just how bad the pandemic is would be committing social suicide. Social media is tightly controlled, so basically you're truly ***d.

It's all coming your way soon!
