Now before i start i am in no way against gay people or in any way homophobic but i have always wondered if being gay can be classed as a disability, here is my theory...

- it is both nature and instict for males to be attracted to females but with being gay that instict/part of the brain is missing or messed up, does this classify as gay being a disabilty?

Now I'll try and be sensible before you get accused of heinous crimes by the Guardianistas.

It could be argued that homosexuality is a genetic trait that would not normally propegate, therefore could be seen as a genetic dead end, a mutation path that would generally in nature die out, so in that sense I see what you are getting at but I wouldn't call it a disability. It is accepted that mankind has ensured survival of genetic faults that would in nature not be tolerated, for example, natural selection has pretty much weeded out faulty sight in the animal kingdom, mankind has changed the rules so that being short sighted no longer ensures being eated before a perfectly sighted colleague in the same species. Would you say being short/long sighted is a disability? Perhaps.

Ok trying to attempt a serious answer. In nature bisexuality is very common particularly in other Primates such as Chimps and Bonobos. In these groups, same sex sexual bonding is important for group cohesion. There is no social stigma or disadvantage in being gay as far as a chimp is concerned.

Humans: Being gay is not a disability because it does not prevent the gay person from socialising with/attracting the opposite sex and it does not prevent them from mating and producing offspring. It has in many, but not all, societies been portrayed as a social stigma and this could be classed as a disadvantage but not a disability which surely means you are not able to do something.

surely a gay person would be just as disabled as a heterosexual person, in the way that the only thing that is dis-abled is the attraction towards the opposite sex, or in the case of straight people, the thing that is dis-abled is the attraction towards the same sex.
surely the invention of the strap-on should have stopped homosexuality
I reckon it's an advantage and a privilege. I feel sorry for people who are not able to appreciate the extreme gorgeousness of Peter Phillips or James Alexandrou or Prince William or Prince Harry or Matt Damon or Sean Maguire or Kyal Marsh or (etc.)
A "Disability" is a physical or mental condition either long or short term that limits a person's movements, senses or activities. Being gay does none of those things, so Bruno, you will have to find some other basis to support your prejudice.

BTW it is pointless saying stuff like "I am in no way against ..." whatever and then going on to seek an excuse for discrimination and dissemination of hate.

(Bernado, let's not forget Ben!)
i dont think that burno was actually trying to be prejudice or to spread anything. i used to work for a guy who was employing more staff. he had several half decent CV's and held interviews. one of them was very camp and assumedly gay so the boss sent him a rejection letter as he was an old school homophob. however i wouldnt class this as a disability as in an ideal situation this person would be just as able as anyone else. it is the views of others that hinder and un-able gay people from doing things
Hippy, I agree with you when you say "A "Disability" is a physical or mental condition either long or short term that limits a person's movements, senses or activities. Being gay does none of those things"

However, it's just silly to assume from that Burno is seeking "k an excuse for discrimination and dissemination of hate ".

If the question was "Could missing a single toe be classed as a disability?" would you have assumed that Burno hated all people with only 9 toes?
males are naturally attracted to females partially for the purpose of sex, but in essence, it is a biological need for them to reproduce their own kind. hence, the need of finding beautiful (aka healthy-looking ) females to obtain better offspring.

add in a little twist in there and change the object of affection to an individual of the same sex... yet you'd still get a human with a natural instinct to breed and reproduce. i don't particularly see this as a disability. two 'parents' of the same sex would just ultimately be unable to produce offspring. the subject of being attracted to one another wouldn't be a sign of disabiliy.

Look at it this way: if being sterile is a disability, then maybe being gay is.
Hippy - there's always someone like you on these sites. Just the mere mention of 'gay' 'black' and the rest brings you out claiming 'discrimination'!!! I'm with Burno420. I'm no way biased and it was an interesting query and one which CAN be asked by someone who isn't being discriminating. Perhaps you find these words provocative and therefore should be banned? What next, the colour of eyes upsetting you perhaps?
wish i was bisexual, then i'd get the best of both worlds, unfortunatly men do nothing for me

im not picking or anything but i didnt mean the word "disabilty" persay i meant just a difference in brain genetics to the majority of other people, just thought id clear tht one up..
As far as I understand this is the place to ask questions. So, Hippy, if you're so sensitive, why do you get involved? I saw absolutely nothing suggesting anything at all, in Bruno's question...it was a question!
