I hadn’t realised that Ethelred meant “ noble counsel”
So his nickname was particularly ironic.

What current politicians I wonder have ironically unsuitable names?
A wisecrack on the streets at the time was “Ethelred, rederless”, translating as “Ethelred (wise counsellor), without counsel.”

Used to roll around at that one!
the thing about "ill advised" is that it let the king off the hook, it was his wicked or incompetent counsellors who were to blame for everything. Unless you ask who appointed the counsellors in the first place.

// in Boris we have a worthy successor to Ethelred. //

// “Ethelred (wise counsellor), without counsel.”//
