Both my big toenails on the outer sides (not next to other toes) are all stubby and a bit cracked even though the rest of the nail is growing okay. They are not yellow or anything, but is this caused by a fungus? Or could it just be that my shoes are rubbing that part of my toe and stopping  the nail from growing? Anyone had any experience of this??!

Thanks!

look at your vitamin and mineral intake in your diet..as nails are one of the first signs of being under the weather..their are lots of symptoms concerning nails and without seing your nail its hard to say which condition is likely..if you do start to take any supplements it takes ages for nail conditions to rectify themselves so you will have to be patient.you could allways do a search and see if you can see any pictures of nails..that look like yours...
I too have nasty toe syndrome... It's your shoes rubbing (is the nail slightly ridged?) I think.  This can loosen the nail slightly making your toe more susceptible to infections. I just use tea tree oil or athlete's foot cream if it looks/feels worse than usual.  Unfortunately the only long term solution is to always wear Hush Puppies...
