After pagers we were issued in our cars with Vodaphones.The batteries barely lasted 6 hours with no use but we plugged them into the cigar socket. Tha battery was about the size of a housebrick and the phone was like a Ipad with a telephone handset attached. Also had a 4" folding aerial. Nowadays police vehicles have computers and ANPR.
