Please could you tell me how much it costs to have a tree removed in Berkshire. I have been given an estimate which seems exceptionally high.

Thanks

How big is tree, what is access like, are there buildings nearby, are there cables through it? Too many unknowns to answer the question. Get a couple of quotes from reputable insured contractors and if they are close then that is your price. More info plus estimate cost so far might help.

alan 30, the tree is in my back garden quite near to the actual buidling. It is a large tree and some of its branches are resting onto the roof of my house. To have it removed and cleared the estimate I have been given is 380 - 400 . Does that sound alright?

Thanks for your participation.
I think the best thing you can do is look up "Tree surgeons" in your local yellow pages and get another couple of quotes. Then you'll get a better feel for whether it's reasonable or not.
Thats about average for anything over 12 feet these days.
Check what kind of tree it is, then ask a sawmill what they'd pay for it!
A friend needed a large chestnut tree removing. Was quoted nearly 300 for removal. 'No way', he said - 'I'm selling you the tree!'
He made quite a few quid from it.
