To be pedantic, it won't be mandatory to wear 'masks' (as in the title of your post) but only to wear 'face coverings'. The official advice has always been (and, as far as I know, still is) that purpose-made face masks should only be worn by those who're in contact with people who're displaying Covid-19 symptoms or by certain other health professionals. If...
the ventilation system in any public transport vehicle (road or rail) is a known bug spreader. with the hot weather, switching it off would make conditions intolerable. instead, if everyone wears masks, the flow of the virus is inhibited and less likely to be drawn into the ventilation system.
Why do we have to wait until june 15th, ? is that the date the masks will arrive in the U/K from a E/U Country.
Because they can not produce them in U/K. ?
I recently bought some material ones on Etsy, lots of craft people, seamstresses etc putting their skills to use. The disposable ones I got from Amazon were awful, on 2 of them the elastic pulled out before I even got them on. Have been hearing similar from others as well.
The Masks where the elastic go round the back of the head, are far more comfortable . The ones where the elastic just go around the ears cut into the ears and slip down the face.
I wish I had seen that a week ago, I had to shorten the elastic on mine. I am a better knitter than sewer, and I've got lots of odd balls of wool.
Mine have got the flat elastic so not painful like the round, but I could have knitted the appropriate length.

Let's think this through.
First error- you don't have to wait until June 15th. You are allowed to wear one today. You have always been allowed to wear one.
We don't need to await deliveries. You can make your own. It's a face covering you will need.
We need to give notice so people who don't watch the briefings or read AB can hear/read about it. Notices will be put up in stations and on buses and leaflets handed out. People may have bought a season ticket and it would be harsh to turn them away tomorrow because they have no mask/face covering. For a week or so those without them will be given a reminder and will have time to make some.
And in other countries like Spain and Italy were they've been using them for months, and giving them away at rail/ bus stations. So much for (Great Britain) not so great :0)
^ Yes, maybe we should hand them out free too- provided we have enough for NHS, carers etc first.
Having said that, have you seen the death figures for Italy and Spain - not exactly a good advert for face masks
Em, I think you need to compare there deaths with ours, don't you think? just in case you don't. Because they started wearing them from the beginning, they are now seeing the results of that early decision.
