MOT expiry is being extended provided your car is in roadworthy state

Fine , there are things you can check yourself
But what about the things the ordinary Joe can't , which would be picked up on an MOT test ?

//I simply stated that there are things that you can check to ensure as far as you can that your vehicle is roadworthy and there are things that you can't on a day to day basis //

Well you have answered your own query. You can only check what you see, hear and feel. Nobody expects you to have an exhaust pollution analyser, hydraulic ramp and tracking rig in your shed.

More I read the more I feel common sense has become a casualty of this pandemic. :-(
well retro, you know what they say about common sense.....it ain't that common!
Bazile you can only check the simple things regularly, e.g. lights, tyre condition and pressures, fluid levels, etc. When my SIL was transport manager, as one of his roles of a small company, drivers had to complete had to complete a daily checklist at the start of each shift.
The problem I see is having found a small fault it isn't always easy to fix. Years ago a bulb could be changed in a couple of minutes, now, on my car at least, the entire front panel, mudguard under panels and headlamp assembly had to be removed to change one daylight running bulb.
