Some people with well paid Jobs can't afford a mortgage in the area they work in, so they have to buy/rent in the sticks, then drive 2 or more hours a day getting to and from work. Then there are people who are not working living in free houses from the council, where the people commuting for over 2 hours a day 5 days a week would love to live.. Do you think things should be reversed?
Do you think unemploymed council tenents should be moved out of the cities?

You've been reading too much of the Daily Mail.

I don't understand the term 'social housing'. To me property is either owner-occupied or rented.
"I don't understand the term 'social housing'."

Well I take it to mean rented property not owned by private landlords. Used to be just council houses but many councils have hived off their housing departments to not-for-profit* housing associations under many different guises. Social Housing is a convenient expression for such rentals.

* except the inflated salaries of some of their executives!
"What is social housing?

Social housing is lower-cost rented housing provided by landlords registered with the social housing regulator, known as a social landlord. Social landlords could be a council or a housing association.

Social housing is likely to be cheaper and can offer greater security from eviction than private rented housing."
"Get everything for free," really? So they have a great life then?
My wife and I were on the council housing list for twenty two years. Kids born, grew up, left home. It never happened. Not one offer. In the end we bought a house ourselves. Council house? Not for me there wasn’t.
Luca, that does seem to be changing recently. Where people could get lifetime tenancies because they needed "social housing", assured or secure tenancies are far less common now. People have fixed-term and are then reassessed.
However, I am not sure that is much motivation for going to work.
Not sure I fully understand the question. Do you really think that people in well paid jobs would want to live in council housing in the inner city?
People on benefits don’t get “everything for free”. They might get help with rent and council tax.

I’ve been on benefits. I’m very grateful for that help, but it’s not a life of Riley.
Nor sure what the OP wants here, I agree social housing is in serious decline but just swapping people around ???

My sister’s ex-mother-in-law lives in a 3 bed council house while having no one else living with her now. My sister had 3 kids in the same village and couldn’t get a council house so had to pay a huge rent to a landlord.
I don’t know what the answer is.
So, Luca, we agree that something’s not right, but for different reasons.
//Start by banning "second homes" - that would free up more than enough to solve the homeless problem.//

Yeh really. My wife and I bought my son, partner and grand daughters a house as they had Landlord problems in London. I could of told them to go on the council list for accomodation but actually relieved the local Christchurch council of housing them. The house is in our name and has been declared to Inland Revenue as we get a small peppercorn rent. The house is willed to them when we die.We get bloody taxed on our own property.Mr Corbyn want's to tax me more for a second home.We aint scroungers and work and scrimp to look after our own. Why should my investment that my wife and I paid from our own savings be banned?
Job is for satisfy needs of company not needs of loosers who only know how to work for others and even cant build their own enterprise.
