Did anyone go to a Remembrance Service, or like me watch it on the TV.
Sad to see the Queen shed a tear, something you don't see very often.
I am always moved by the ceremony down at the Cenotaph,.

I watched it on TV. So sad to see the Queen without Philip. She looked so miserable. Was remembering my childhood in London where literally everything stopped at 11.00am. Traffic came to a standstill! people stood still in the streets. Times change!

Nellie, i live in the capital and it still goes on, perhaps or because we have a lot of people here from other nations they don't know the customs, and i guess why would they. But the nations that come to the Cenotaph to commemorate do so willingly
My Dad used to take me to the cenotaph on Wimbledon Common and would shed tears when the brass band played. A very strong memory - my big strong dad shedding tears. It was so soon after the war. I wish now I had asked my parents and grandparents to tell me more about their experiences.
I do remember all the bomb sites scattered around London. we left London when I was 15.

Nellie
my brothers and i used to play on bombed sites not realising the danger of course. I still live here of course but those memories never fade away. I used to go
down to the Cenotaph to listen, watch the service but through health issues can no longer stand too long.
Same here Emmie! Oh to be young again.
We watched on TV with family. Always moving. Thank heavens we still respect that properly. We will also have a 2 minute silence at work tomorrow to mark Armistice Day.
Question Author
i will likely be at home, so will be quiet at any rate, but i might watch the news.
Sadly I missed it, but there are highlights on this evening and I have it ready to record.
Question Author
yes the highlights are on this evening 18.45 pm BBC2
We not only attended, but were very involved with our local Remembrance Service. I read a poem by Cyril Crain who was 21 when he landed on Juno Beach. It is called 'Normandy' and worth looking-up.
The singing-group we're in also sang, Mr. J2 (as the oldest surviving ex-serviceman in the village) carried and placed the flag and helped to lay the wreath at our memorial. Yesterday I and 2 other ladies worked v. hard making floral arrangements for the church (artificial poppies, corn, teazles and straw for anyone interested). We played a recording of the BBC announcement that D-Day had commenced. It all went extremely well and people seemed very satisfied.
That is a lovely poem Jordain.

I wonder how long all those old war songs will survive? Forever I hope. Does anyone else find themselves singing along with them?
Yes Naomi, I do.
Ahhh, well done, marvel. Got to say I shed a tear with some of them too.
Very emotional thinking of that generation.
I have just read all those D Day poems and if anybody reading them fails to be moved, then they have no soul. The one that got to me the most was the typed one on a bit of paper with the young dying boy longing to know if his soul will go back to 'blighty'. That's it, I'm gone again now. We should NEVER forget.
Those poems can't help but move people. I agree we must never forget.
