You need to take him to the vet. I have this problem from time to time with my dog and the only thing that clear it up is a yucky green paste she prescribes which you can either put on food or syringe directly into the dog's mouth. Works within 24 hours.

That's put me off my tea ;-)
You may be giving him too rich food. Have you changed his diet at all? If you feed him tinned food some of them are very rich in protein e.g. Pedigree Chum which always upset our Cavalier King C.

Thanks here, I will do that if it doesn't improve soon, Sorry Canary I didn't mean to put you off your food, and Khandro, no, hes on same food, although I have been given him a small amount of chicken and rice while hes out of sorts he has been gulping it back, probably, because I have banned all treats for the time being.
When our present dog had the runs, our vet said to not feed her for 24 hours to remove the offending bacteria, but of course that is difficult as you can't explain to them what you are doing. But you can try a restricted diet, certainly cut out the chicken (anyway). rice and veg. - carrots etc.
I'm not b.t.w. an expert, just a dog owner
fruitsalad, I find that once my dog has the runs, nothing helps, changing her food, starving her, nothing. The only thing is that stuff I told you about from the vet's, it's amazing stuff. Some dogs are more prone to the runs that some others and sadly mine is one of them. There is nothing else wrong with her, she has had tests and is a happy, playful girl, just has a sensitive tum, sadly. If your dog continues with the runs, the vet will probably do some tests if you agree, but he may just be like mine.
Thanks for BA x
In days long ago when we had a dog we found that changing her food could give her the runs. Not a major change, same make (Lassie, I think) but a different flavour was enough. It seemed boring to us but sticking to the same diet worked.
